Faces of Dover Historic Tour
Faces of Dover is a unique, self-guided historical experience that brings Dover’s rich past to life through a series of thoughtfully placed photo markers and interpretive signs throughout the city.
Founded in 2008 as a volunteer-driven project affiliated with the Dover Main Street Program, Faces of Dover began with a mission to preserve local stories and celebrate the individuals and families who shaped the community. What started with 13 posters highlighting second- and third-generation businesses has grown into a beloved walking tour of Dover’s people, places, and pivotal moments.
Each marker features historic photographs and information tied to a specific location—whether it’s a church, mill, neighborhood, or moment in time. From early labor movements and devastating floods to iconic landmarks and community pioneers, these markers create a bridge between Dover’s past and present.
Markers are typically on display from late April through mid-November, with some removed in the winter months for snow clearance. Whether you're a resident or a visitor, walking the Faces of Dover trail is a rewarding way to connect with the stories that helped shape the Garrison City.
