Cochecho River Recreation
Cochecho River Recreation is a new business founded by newlyweds Paul and Maya Halthore-Kelley, created to bring people closer to one of Dover’s greatest natural resources: the Cochecho River.
What makes our business especially exciting is our setting. The Cochecho River has played a central role in Dover’s history for centuries, and today, it is entering a remarkable new chapter as a recreational destination. Nebi Park represents decades of community effort to bring the waterfront back to public life, with walking paths, gathering spaces, river access, a paddle dock, and recreation amenities. We are honored to have been chosen to help activate this beautiful new park and welcome the community to the river.
Our goal is to make paddling approachable, affordable, and convenient for everyone in Dover. We offer kayak and canoe rentals, personal boat storage, and introductory classes designed to empower people to paddle safely and confidently. With daily-use rates, three-visit punch cards, and seasonal passes, we have options for both first-time paddlers and avid kayakers.
There’s more to come, too. Our snack bar will continue to grow, with more tasty treats inspired by requests from the community. We also hope to bring exciting programs and events to Nebi Park, including movie nights, food trucks, live music, and more. We want Cochecho River Recreation to become a place where people come not just to paddle, but to spend time together and enjoy all that Dover’s waterfront has to offer.
The river downstream of the Lower Falls Dam provides a peaceful flat-water paddling experience surrounded by diverse wildlife and a lush ecosystem. Our logo, featuring an osprey and bald eagle, was inspired by Paul’s first trip down the river in April 2026, when he watched the two birds competing for territory overhead.
The ebb and flow of the tide adds another dynamic element, making every trip on the Cochecho a little different. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful escape, a place to spend an afternoon with friends and family, or a fun way to get a workout, you’ll find something waiting for you on the river.
